CMC Land Acknowledgement

This resolution stands in support of the Indigenous land acknowledgement that has been drafted by the Commencement Committee and encourages its use by all members of the Copper Mountain College community.

Whereas, The Copper Mountain College campus is located on the ancestral homelands (Nungwuh Tuhveep) and traditional territories of the Serrano, Cahuilla, Chemehuevi (Nüwü) and Mojave Peoples;

Whereas, Copper Mountain College stands in solidarity with the Indigenous Peoples against hundreds of years of injustice and recognizes Indigenous Peoples as the original stewards of the lands that we now inhabit;

Whereas, Acknowledgement of Indigenous lands is an important way to honor and respect the Indigenous Peoples, their elders past and present, their future generations, and their traditional territories;

Whereas, Copper Mountain College extends its sincere gratitude to the ancestral caretakers of the land that CMC occupies and gratitude for the use of the land;

Be it therefore Resolved, Copper Mountain College supports the implementation of the following Indigenous land acknowledgement in all aspects of business on Copper Mountain College campus: CMC gratefully acknowledges our college stands (this event is being held) on the traditional lands of the Serrano, Cahuilla, Chemehuevi – Nüwü, and Mojave Peoples and pays its respect to their ancestors, elders, and relatives, past, present, and emerging.
